Tesoros Del Sol™

Organic roaster.NOTE: This review was posted in 2003, so many features have changed on the Web site.

Janet Blakeley is a North American living in Costa Rica. She became instantly enamoured with the people in Costa rica, and was motivated to learn the language so that she could know them better. One thing led to another and Janet found herself involved in the grassroots level push to get Costa Rican organic coffee recognized in the world market as the finest coffee. Being certified organic enables her farmers to get a price commensurate with the cost of production.

Tesoros Del Sol™ has a lot of hidden potential...all ready to be converted to some flavorful organic brew. Of course, we fell in love with the poetry sidebar (this feature has since been eliminated), and we promised we'd let our poets know about this feature. From there, we began to peruse the rest of the site.

Janet and José inspect Licho's farm."The Web Guy Goes Inspecting With Janet" (Take the Farm Tour) is a great take on an old angle. How many times have you looked deep into your coffeecup and wondered just how those beans were produced and how they managed to get into your cup? If you drink Tesoros Del Sol™, you'll find out how these beans were raised, the methods of farming, the economics and trials and efforts of coffee collective located in the Alajuela mountain district of Costa Rica.

If the story and photos are enough to whet your appetite for more Costa Rican information, the site will help. They have a great links page with information about the area, and even more information about coffee. This is one area we want to pursue with more gusto, and we're glad to see others with the same interest.

Janet's web designer, Ben Vaughn, is interested in his client's business, and he believes in his work with her. Here's to organic coffee! Here's to Tesoros Del Sol™!
