Two Ditties
by Linda Goin (bio after poetry)
Undecided Coffee Lover
Cappuccino and cafe latte vie
f or my attention;
which one shall I drink?
If cream be hazelnut, pass latte by.
Crème de banana?
Drain that down the sink!
Organic brews are best by far, they sing
without chemical chorus,
and yet
they grind well.
South American or island beans bring
aromas, captivating songs for baristas.
I crave cacao, perhaps demitasse,
or espresso, maybe two
hot shots of Brazil?
I can't decide these things, I think I'll pass.
But wait! Oh, coffee is a bitter pill.
" What will you have today?" (I'm next in line!)
"Just the house brand, please, and
no cream."
Java King
Clean-cut tie-dyed Java King.
He talked about earth tilts,
and about invisible volcanos.
They erupt beneath
homes of real estate agents.
(make profit on paradise).
He escaped the purge,
that sift of the beans
in the espresso machine.
"There's no proof," said he,
"of freeze frame linear drip."
Roast, toast and milk 'em
in Between the Covers.
His optimal time to brew the stew
was six minutes, take it or leave it.
Believe in his miracles!
He found a three piece
custom made pin stripe suit
in the town free box.
A ticket, a Visa
(I didn't apply for that!)
$5,000 credit line
arrived in time
to take his sister
to the Moon.
Booted from the Baptist church,
he's back, self-ordained
leader of sweet and low pack,
he steamed them beans
in coffee machines, on down.
Roast, toast and milk 'em
in Between the Covers.
His optimal time to brew the stew
was six minutes, take it or leave it.
