A dinner lady who fell and broke her hip after she was startled by a coffee machine was awarded £60,000 damages yesterday.Helen Given, 61, jumped backwards in shock and toppled over when something “flashed� inside the drinks dispenser.
“The machine was like a wild animal. It started hissing and spitting water and then suddenly there was a flash.” She added, “I just got such a fright that when I jumped back I lost my balance and fell over. Everyone knew that machine was an accident waiting to happen.:
Two witnesses told the court they then saw Helen jump back from the dispenser in right. One of them backed her story that the machine “flashed.” In a written judgment, Lord Emslie admitted he had been doubtful about Helen’s story. But he added: “Truth is, as the saying goes, often stranger than fiction.”
The project on developing Arabica coffee in Vietnam, which was kicked off eight years ago, is facing failure. This is an ambitious project that aims to develop the Arabica coffee plantation area in 15 northern mountainous provinces, allowing Vietnam to export Arabica coffee to the world. DAVAO Region’s coffee production decreased by 4.85 percent based on the latest monitoring conducted by the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS) in June this year. Israeli group Strauss-Elite has begun construction of a new €10m production facility in Serbia as it looks to consolidate its position as one of the leading coffee processors in the country. The group, which operates in the country via its Doncafe brand – acquired in 2004 – is already one of the leading coffee producers in South East Europe and is keen to meet growing demand in the sector.
